DESCRIPTION
Hyperhidrosis Treatment- Adelaide
Excess sweating or hyperhidrosis can be unpleasant, unsightly and annoying. However, it is normal for the body to sweat to a certain extent.
Sweating is key to the mechanisms your body uses to maintain the right temperature. When sweat evaporates, it cools your skin. If you get hot, your body will compensate by sweating more so that the rate of cooling is intensified.
However, some people do sweat more than others. This could be due to a number of reasons:
- Potential underlying medical conditions e.g. thyroid, diabetes
- Age e.g. puberty, menopause
- Exertion – a more active lifestyle teaches the body to be more efficient, so sweating starts earlier
- Caffeine intake, spicy food
- Genetics
- Stress
However, some people have ‘excessive sweating’, where the amount of sweat produced is above normal and interferes with daily life. This is a medical condition called “hyperhidrosis.” It is a condition that sufferers often live with for years, dealing on a daily basis with the embarrassment or lack of confidence that results from having uncontrollably damp armpits.
The Benefits
1. Increased Confidence:
Hyperhidrosis treatment can lead to a significant improvement in confidence and self-esteem by reducing excessive sweating, allowing individuals to feel more comfortable in social and professional settings.
2. Improved Quality of Life:
Managing hyperhidrosis can enhance overall quality of life by reducing the inconvenience and embarrassment associated with excessive sweating, enabling individuals to engage in activities without constant worry about sweat stains or odor.
3. Enhanced Personal Hygiene:
Excessive sweating can sometimes lead to hygiene concerns due to the constant dampness and odor associated with it. Hyperhidrosis treatment can help individuals maintain better personal hygiene by reducing sweat production.
4. Comfort and Convenience:
Hyperhidrosis treatment can make daily life more comfortable and convenient by minimizing the need for frequent clothing changes, avoiding the use of absorbent pads or liners, and decreasing the reliance on antiperspirants.
5. Improved Skin Health:
Excessive sweating can contribute to various skin issues such as rashes, fungal infections, and irritation. Treating hyperhidrosis can help improve skin health by reducing moisture accumulation and minimizing the risk of these skin problems.
6. Better Social and Professional Opportunities:
Managing hyperhidrosis effectively can lead to improved social interactions and professional opportunities by alleviating concerns about sweat-related issues and allowing individuals to focus on their goals and aspirations without the distraction of excessive sweating.

What causes hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis, characterized by excessive sweating beyond what's necessary for temperature regulation, can be triggered by various factors.
Primary focal hyperhidrosis often has no identifiable cause but is linked to overactive sweat glands, leading to excessive perspiration in specific areas like the hands, feet, armpits, and face. Genetics may play a role, as it often runs in families.
Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, results from underlying medical conditions or medications. These conditions include hormonal imbalances, menopause, thyroid disorders, infections, neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease, diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers. Medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and some blood pressure medications can also contribute to increased sweating. Understanding the underlying cause of hyperhidrosis is crucial for effective treatment and management.
