Frequently Asked Questions on Bio Stimulation Dermal Fillers

Frequently Asked Questions on Bio Stimulation Dermal Fillers

What Are Bio Stimulation Dermal Filler Made From?

Bio stimulation dermal fillers are made from very small calcium based microspheres which are suspended in a water based gel substance.  Allergy to these microspheres is not a problem because they are made from similar minerals that are found naturally in the body.  It is not necessary to perform allergy testing before administering this product.  The microspheres and gel and absorbed naturally over time by the body, leaving behind only natural collagen.

Why Do I Need Bio Stimulation Dermal Fillers?

The ageing process is affected by many different factors. Factors such as genetics, lifestyle including smoking, diet, and sun exposure all determine how quickly you will age.

The signs of ageing include: loss of facial volume, loss of muscle volume, droopy appearing skin, large pores, hollows in the cheeks and temples, general lines, and wrinkles.  Pigmentation is also another issue with ageing.

From about age twenty upwards we start losing the structural proteins such as collagen, elastin and natural product (term forbidden by TGA) from our skin.

Traditional dermal fillers work by injecting natural product (term forbidden by TGA) into the skin which helps bind water and plump the skin.  This works very well, except that it is only effective for around three months.

Biostimulation dermal fillers work by inducing the production of the body’s own natural collagen thereby having a much longer term and lasting effect.  This gives bio stimulation fillers a great advantage over traditional fillers.

What is The Mechanism of Action?

  1. Bio Stimulation dermal fillers are made up of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier.
  2. After injection, the product not only provides immediate corrections and increased volume to the area treated, but also helps to stimulate the production of natural collagen by the body.
  3. Overtime only the natural collagen will remain since the body will naturally metabolise the CaHA and the gel suspension.

Collagen is an important building block for healthy and youthful appearing skin.  It will give your skin a natural volume as well as ironing our wrinkles to give your skin a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Why Should I Choose To Have Bio Stimulable Dermal Fillers?

  1. It has an immediate effect, replacing lost volume and it stimulates the production of natural collagen.
  2. The results have been clinically proven to last for more than one year.
  3. Patients are known to have high satisfaction from using this product.
  4. It can be mixed with lidocaine a  local anaesthetic to help reduce the pain of the injections.
  5. Produces immediate and long lasting results to smooth out your wrinkles.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Dermal fillers with biostimulation are great for filling large static lines and folds:

  • Helps to volumise, contour and shape the face
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Chin and cheek augmentation
  • Rejuvenate the hands
  • Marionette lines

What Happens During the Procedure?

You will usually meet with Dr Targett prior to the procedure for her to discuss with you your suitability for bio stimulation dermal fillers and to discuss the look you are trying to achieve and formulate a treatment plan.

On the day of the procedure, you will be required to sign a consent form detailing any risks no matter how small, associated with the procedure. The first step is to thoroughly cleanse your face.  An anaesthetic cream will then be applied to help ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as it possibly can be for you. Dr Targett will then perform the dermal filler injections according to the treatment plan and the desired look that you are trying to achieve.  This process usually takes around thirty minutes.  You will be asked to come in two weeks after your treatment for Dr Targett to assess the success of the treatment and to make any adjustments if required.

When will I See The Results?

The results are usually seen immediately after the procedure, due to the filling ability of the gel.  There may be some swelling and bruising immediately after the procedure, so the best results may be seen two weeks after having the procedure.

How Long Will The Results Last?

The results have been shown to last for over one year, making this product an attractive proposition.  As the microspheres and gel are reabsorbed by the body, new collagen is laid down adding natural volume to the skin with lasting results.

What Are The Contraindications to Bio Stimulation Dermal Fillers?

We do not reccomend this treatment if you:

  1. Have an allergy to Calcium Hydroxylapatite.
  2. Have severe allergies, or allergies to lidocaine.
  3. Have a bleeding disorder.
  4. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Should I Tell My Doctor Before Having This Treatment?

Please tell your doctor if you are taking aspirin or warfarin or other such medications that thin the blood.  These medications interfere with the clotting of the blood and you will be more likely to experience bleeding and bruising at the site of the injection.

Please provide a full medical history to your administering doctor including diseases, allergies, past injuries and disabilities.  Please also tell your doctor if you suffer from excessive, raised scarring. At ACM you will fill out a medical questionnaire prior to the treatment.

What Are The Most Common Adverse Reactions to This Product?

The most common adverse reactions to Bio Stimulation Dermal Fillers are: itching, swelling, bruising, redness, pain, lumps and bumps, difficulty using hands if injected into the hands, loss of sensation, and other local side effects.  These adverse reactions are mostly temporary and will pass with time.

Excess sweating or hyperhidrosis can be unpleasant, unsightly and annoying. However, it is normal for the body to sweat to a certain extent.

Sweating is key to the mechanisms your body uses to maintain the right temperature. When sweat evaporates, it cools your skin. If you get hot, your body will compensate by sweating more, so that the rate of cooling is intensified.

However, some people do sweat more than others. This could be due to a number of reasons:

  • Potential underlying medical condition e.g. thyroid, diabetes
  • Age e.g. puberty, menopause
  • Exertion – a more active lifestyle teaches the body to be more efficient, so sweating starts earlier
  • Caffeine intake, spicy food
  • Genetics
  • Stress

However, some people have ‘excessive sweating’, where the amount of sweat produced is above normal and interferes with daily life. This is a medical condition called “hyperhidrosis.” It is a condition that sufferers often live with for years, dealing on a daily basis with the embarrassment or lack of confidence which results from having uncontrollably damp armpits.

Frequently Asked Questions on Hyperhidrosis

How do you treat excessive sweating / hyperhidrosis?

This treatment uses muscle relaxant injections to stop signals travelling between nerves and sweat glands. By blocking the neurotransmitter, sweat glands can no longer be overstimulated. As a result, the activity of the sweat glands is decreased. This treatment offers a long-term reduction in excessive sweating, enabling patients to feel more confident in social and professional situations.

Many patients assume that muscle relaxants are only used to treat cosmetic concerns such as laugh lines. However, these products also have other uses. Injections of muscle relaxant in this treatment cause no changes in the appearance of the area. The injections are focused only on the function of the glands.

Who is suitable to have anti sweating treatment?

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, affects an estimated 1% of the population. If you have experienced excessive sweating and are looking for a long-term solution, muscle relaxant treatments may be right for you. Most candidates have already tried strong antiperspirants, but have not found them satisfactory. If nothing has worked to control your sweating, you may want to try muscle relaxant treatments. They are appropriate for most adult men and women who are in good overall health.

What is the cost of hyperhidrosis treatment?

Muscle relaxant treatments for excessive sweating/hyperhidrosis begin at $660. The cost of this treatment is dependent on the amount of muscle relaxant needed. Because the armpits are a relatively large treatment area, this treatment tends to require more product than other muscle relaxant treatments. Schedule a consultation visit to discuss your treatment specifics and receive a personalised quote based on the amount of muscle relaxant required.

What should I expect for hyperhidrosis treatment?

The treatment is performed in our doctor’s office and takes about 40 minutes. A thin needle is used to inject the muscle relaxant just underneath the skin. Multiple injections are placed throughout the armpits in order to target all the sweat glands.

There is no recovery time necessary, and patients can return home or work immediately after the injection process. There are no specific aftercare instructions and no downtime.

Within about a week, the muscle relaxant will have taken full effect, blocking signals to the sweat glands. You should see a noticeable reduction in sweat by this time. Patients should note that it is common to experience a substantial reduction, rather than complete elimination, of sweating.

The results of this treatment last for 6-8 months. Many patients return for repeat injections in order to maintain its effects.

What can I expect after the treatment?

There is virtually no downtime following the procedure, although it is not unusual to experience mild tenderness and in some cases light bruising in the injected areas following treatment. These effects generally subside shortly after. It is not uncommon for a top-up treatment to be performed two to four weeks following the initial treatment as this ensures the accuracy and longevity of the desired effects.

What are the risks and complications for hyperhidrosis treatment?

Common side effects of muscle relaxant treatments for excessive sweating include redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising in the armpits. They dissipate in under a week. Avoid rubbing or touching the underarms for 12 hours following the injections, as this can make the muscle relaxant migrate to nearby areas and cause unintended muscle weakness. Serious complications are rare following muscle relaxant injections but may include infection or long-term numbness of the muscle in the treated area.
