DESCRIPTION

Nasolabial Folds - Adelaide

Fillers for the nasolabial folds are a great way to treat lines around the nose and the mouth.

Nasolabial folds are the lines that run vertically from the sides of the nose to the corners of the upper lip, they are sometimes referred to as smile lines. Dermal fillers can be used to soften the appearance of these folds.

Nasolabial lines are the two skin folds that normally run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth, they separate the cheeks from the upper lip and are commonly referred to as nasolabial folds. Nasolabial lines can appear at an early age and can make us look older than we really are. In the mid-twenties, they may just appear as minor depressed lines and are in fact quite difficult to see unless someone is looking for them, however as the years pass their visibility increases and they become associated with an ageing face.

How it works

What Are Nasolabial Folds?

Nasolabial folds are facial features that are often referred to as laugh lines or smile lines. You will notice nasolabial folds as folds of skin or deep wrinkles or lines that extend from the lower corners of the nose outwards to the corners of the mouth.  The folds are seen to separate the cheeks from the upper lips.  As you age these lines can become deeper and appear more prominent.

How do you treat nasolabial folds?

Nasolabial folds are facial features that are often referred to as laugh lines or smile lines. You will notice nasolabial folds as folds of skin or deep wrinkles or lines that extend from the lower corners of the nose outwards to the corners of the mouth.  The folds are seen to separate the cheeks from the upper lips.  As you age these lines can become deeper and appear more prominent.

The fillers we use to treat some wrinkles and deep lines are bio-stimulants of the body’s own collagen, these dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid which is a substance naturally present in living cells. The filler is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle and can have a lasting result of up to 9-12 months dependant on the individual.  Hyaluronic acid can be used as a wrinkle filler, fold filler, cheek filler or for even lip augmentation. It supersedes in safety the older collagen (animal in origin) and silicon fillers now used less often.

How Do You Get Nasolabial Folds?

Gravity’s pull combined with internal changes to the natural structure and volume of our skin, and lifestyle factors like the sun, reduce our skin’s flexibility over time. This eventually leads to sagging. Our cheeks become less defined and start to droop, which gives the face an overall tired and drawn appearance – even if we’re feeling quite the opposite.

As the fat pads in the cheeks begin to slide down, they also create pressure on the nasolabial folds (lines from the outer nostrils to the edge of the smile). This makes the fold more pronounced, which can also contribute to a fatigued appearance.

What to expect?

Results can be seen immediately and treatment with fillers is safe, fast and leaves no permanent scars or other traces on the face. Fillers add natural volume to your skin to lift and produce new firmness resulting in a healthy & vital appearance. After the procedure has been carried out the treated area may be slightly red and/or slightly swollen, however, you can resume normal activities, immediately.
The results typically last 9-12 months although the exact length of time will depend on the structure of your skin and other factors such as lifestyle and age. Additional touch up treatments can be performed at any time after the initial treatment.
