How it works

What is a non surgical facelift?

A Non Surgical Facelift is simply a facelift without the surgery. It is often described as a liquid facelift, which refers to the use of cosmetic injectables including anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

However, a non-surgical facelift can be much more than that! At Advanced Cosmetic Medicine we like to take a multi-faceted approach, using several different treatments. It is the combination of treatments that can often achieve the best results.

Every patient’s needs are different, so each treatment regime will also be different. For example thread lift in conjunction with dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Other patients respond well to the combination of a liquid facelift with a collagen-stimulating treatment such as Laser Genesis or Factor 4.

What is the latest in Non Surgical Facelift technology?

Advanced Cosmetic Medicine are proud to announce the purchase of the latest HIFU technology called the Ultraformer III.  HIFU stands for High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound.  This technology works by focussing ultrasound at various depth in the dermis.  The focussed ultrasound causes a heating effect which results in skin tightening due to contraction of collagen fibres as well as stimulating new collagen and elastin growth.  The result is a natural, younger looking skin which has greater structural integrity to weather the effects of time.

What concerns can a non-surgical facelift treat?

A non-surgical facelift can combat the following concerns:

  • Drooping, sagging skin
  • Marionette lines
  • Frown lines
  • Nasolabial creases
  • Sunken/hollow facial areas
  • Rosacea and other pigmentation issues
  • Scarring caused by acne and other traumas
  • Crow’s feet lines
  • Dull skin tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone

Why have non surgical facelift?

As we age, the face loses volume and the skin’s elasticity declines dramatically, with the effects of gravity becoming all too evident and resulting in sagging or drooping. For women, the chin can also be a real tell-tale sign of ageing: the loss of deep supporting fat, combined with gum recession and loss of bone, impact the lower face and chin causing thin lips and wrinkles and a puckered or pouty chin. Tissue loss and sagging skin also cause a chin crease below the lips. A non surgical facelift may well help to rejuvenate your face.

What is the importance of revolumising the face?

One of the key factors that contribute to facial ageing is the loss of facial volume. This is often overlooked when rejuvenating the face. When we are young, our face resembles a grape, full, smooth and firm. As we get older, we lose the volume in our face and it becomes more like a sultana.

Replacing lost volume is in many cases more important than surgically lifting the face. Lifting the face surgically without replenishing lost volume can often result in an unnatural appearance. Revolumising the face does not always replace the need for a surgical procedure, but in many cases, surgery can be avoided or delayed simply by strategic re-volumisation of the face. This can be done relatively non-invasively by dermal fillers.

What should patients expect with a non surgical facelift?

An in-depth consultation with Dr Targett is required before undergoing any treatment. Dr Targett will evaluate your appearance, considering your health, skin concerns, needs, and anticipated outcomes of a non surgical facelift. A customised treatment plan will be created for you, using a combination of cosmetic facial techniques Dr Targett believes will be suitable and effective in achieving the best results for you.

There are a variety of treatments that we use at Advanced Cosmetic Medicine, meaning the treatment itself will vary for every patient. We combine techniques to create the best possible results, including:

  • Dermal fillers

Dermal filler injections will work to fill fine lines and creases, support the structure of facial tissue, and restore volume to the areas of the face where needed. The hydration provided by hyaluronic acid will rejuvenate the skin, enhance its overall quality, and work to tighten the skin to eliminate skin laxity.

  • Anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are designed to relax the facial muscles to prevent muscle contraction, which can cause deep frown lines and wrinkles. The injections give your muscles time to relax, smoothing out your skin over time to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Thread lifts

Thread lifts involve using temporary sutures to lift and tighten the face without incisions. These filaments are non-invasive, absorbable, and, once suspended beneath the skin, will trigger your body’s natural healing processes to enhance collagen production.

  • Factor 4

Known as the “vampire facial”, Factor 4 treatments use an extract of your blood to create a highly concentrated autologous conditioning serum that contains growth and repair factors. These factors will significantly improve your overall skin quality, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, improve elasticity, and plump the skin for a youthful, rejuvenated glow.

  • Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis treatments utilise a non-invasive laser technology designed to diffuse redness, reduce the appearance of scars, and eliminate fine lines. The laser emits a wavelength that gently heats the upper dermis layer of the skin without damaging the surface skin, stimulating collagen production to smooth out fine lines and coagulating capillaries to eliminate redness.

Patients may require multiple treatments depending on which techniques are utilised to achieve their non-surgical facelift. Aftercare for post-treatment recovery will be tailored to your customised treatment plan, as some methods may require specific instructions to ensure optimal results.

Are there any associated risks or complications?

Although non surgical facelifts offer much less chance of risks occurring than surgical facelifts, there is still the possibility of associated risks or complications. These risks and complications include:

  • Redness
  • Skin irritation
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Bumps or lumps
  • Scarring or blistering
  • Infection
  • Skin discolouration

Dr Targett will provide you with aftercare instructions to minimise any potential associated risks or complications and to help you achieve the best possible outcome from your treatment with proper healing.

What is Non Surgical Facial Shaping?

Traditionally, facial shaping and face lifting has been performed exclusively by surgical means. With the advent of dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, it is now possible to shape, volumise and lift the face and make subtle yet significant changes without the need for surgery. The key difference between the non-surgical facelift procedure and the surgical procedures is that the non-surgical facelift procedures require little or no downtime/recovery. Furthermore, as expected, non-surgical procedures carry little risk and require no general anaesthetic.

Generally, non-surgical facial shaping/lifting falls into two categories;

Rejuvenation –  this is when fillers are used to replace lost volume and to return the face to a previous more youthful state

Enhancement – This is used to enhance areas of the face such as the cheeks, nose or lips to balance or enhance the facial shape.  Here dermal fillers are used for beautification of the face through improving facial proportions. The Golden Ratio, or Phi, is often used to help guide practitioners to perform treatments on the face to achieve ideal facial proportions.

What non surgical facial shaping treatments are available?

Non-Surgical Tear Trough / Eye Bag Treatment
Tear troughs, or the hollows under the eyes, can make one appear tired when they are not. Through the use of dermal fillers, these can be disguised. Furthermore, the appearance of eye bags can be reduced by the placement of filler around them.

Non-Surgical Eyebrow Shaping / Lifting
Eyebrows can be enhanced through filling and lifting the brow area with dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. This is an alternative to having surgery to remove the upper lid skin or lift the brow, which can often result in a hollowed-out appearance

Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement
Chin enhancement can be performed non-surgically with dermal fillers. This can help to balance the profile and extend the jawline. It is a good alternative to a chin implant.

Non-Surgical Cheek Enhancement
Cheek enhancement can be performed with dermal fillers to replace the volume that has been lost with time, or to further enhance the shape of the cheeks.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Through the use of dermal fillers, it is possible to straighten the appearance of the nose, including left/right deviations or bump in the nose – without surgery. For those who have lower nose bridges, dermal fillers can also be used to increase the height of the nose.

Non-Surgical Jawline slimming/bruxism
Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to slim the jawline to reduce the squareness of a face, as well as to help reduce contraction of muscle that causes teeth grinding or clenching.

Non-Surgical jawline enhancement and jowl reduction
The appearance of jowls can be reduced, and the jawline straightened through the use of dermal fillers around the jowls. This hides the appearance of jowls and provides a viable alternative to surgical treatments

Non-Surgical Skin tightening/lifting
Skin tightening and lifting can be achieved with non-invasive and non-surgical methods for those who don’t want to have a facelift.

Non-surgical / injectable lip enhancement
Dermal fillers can be used to replace volume in the lips, shape lips, and to help reduce the signs of ageing around the lips

Is there any downtime?

With plastic surgery, recovery times can be as long as six months in some cases. With a facelift through non-cosmetic surgery, there is little to no downtime and you can resume normal activities right away.

If I have a non surgical facelift can I have a proper facelift in the future?

Not at all! Sometime later on when you have more room in your schedule for a surgical facelift procedure and its recovery time or when you are better able to afford a facelift, you can always have it done then. In fact, sometimes non-surgical facelifts can be used to evaluate and fine-tune the exact results desired before undertaking the more permanent procedure. And in the meantime, touch-up treatments can be done on your non-surgical facelift.

Will a non surgical facelift last as long as a surgical facelift?

Non-surgical facelifts do not last as long as surgical facelifts; however, they do not take as long to perform and recovery time is shorter. The results of surgical facelifts last ten years or more, while non-surgical facelifts last from six months to a year or more.

What are the other benefits of a non surgical facelift?

Your look is not “permanent,” which means that although you look much younger, you are not permanently committed to the look should you decide it’s not for you after all. Also, as mentioned, the recovery time for non-surgical facelifts is shorter and they are less expensive, allowing you to use them “just for special occasions” such as a wedding or reunion
