DESCRIPTION

Regenera Activa - Adelaide

The goal of Regenera Activa is to slow down your natural rate of hair loss and activate your natural hair growth.  In this way you are able to prolong the life of your natural hair follicles before the need for more radical hair transplant procedures becomes necessary.

Regenera Activa is suitable for the treatment of mild to moderate androgenetic alopecia.  This occurs due to the excess of a hormone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes hair follicles to miniaturize and go into the telogen(resting) phase.  If this is not treated, the follicles will eventually stop producing hair and the area will be left completely bald.

How it works

What Is Regenera Activa?

Regenera Activa is the latest nonsurgical, regenerative and  autologous treatment for androgenic hair loss.

How Does Regenera Activa Work?

The Regenera Activa system extracts “micrografts” from your scalp.  The “micrografts” are then injected into areas of hair loss to repair and regenerate your scalp. This results in thicker and stronger hair.

It is believed that the growth factor has a stimulatory effect on the remaining existing hair follicles, prompting them to continue cycling through the various phases and helping to prevent further hair loss.

The micrografts contain a combination of stem cell precursors, growth factors and progenitor cells.  The micrografts are obtained from the back of the scalp using a 2mm punch biopsy.

Many other areas of medicine use this technology, such as orthopaedics, plastic surgery and maxillofacial surgery.

How is The Treatment Performed?

Step 1 — Harvest of Micro-Grafts

A local anaesthetic is injected into the back of the scalp in the region the sample will be taken.  Three to five skin samples will be collected using a 2mm punch biopsy.

Step 2 — Extraction of Regenerative Factors

The patented Regenera Activa® system will then extract growth factors that have potent regenerative abilities on the patients existing hair follicles.

Step 3 — Injection

Who Is Suitable For Regenera Activa?

It is first important to identify the cause of hair loss.  Once this is determined the best treatment to stop further hair loss or to encourage new hair growth can be selected.

To be suitable for Regenera Activa;

  • The treatment is suitable for both males and females
  • You must be diagnosed with male/female pattern hair loss (androgenic hair loss)
  • You must have only Mild or Moderate hair loss or thinning.

What Results can I expect from Regenera Activa?

  • There have been numerous clinical studies which show an improvement in hair density, hair counts and scalp coverage after one month of receiving the treatment.
  • Patients have also seen a reduction in the rate of hair loss.
  • Over twelve months there is an improvement in the thickness of the hair as well as the growth of new hair.
  • When used in conjunction with other hair loss treatments even better results can be achieved.

What should I expect after the treatment?

You will be able to continue with your day, as usual, following your treatment. There will be tiny circular marks at the back of the head where the tissue was obtained, and it will crust over as it heals within 7-10 days. The marks may remain but are usually covered by hair and become less visible over time.

Patients will need to avoid washing their hair and scratching their scalp for at least 24 hours post-treatment to mitigate any discomfort or risk of infection. We advise patients to avoid swimming in the sea or pool, saunas, prolonged sun exposure, and strenuous activity for two to three days following their Regenera Activa treatment. A healthy diet containing foods that have been shown to improve hair health and growth are also recommended, as this kind of diet can help support your regrown hair. Foods such as berries, spinach, avocado, sweet potatoes, different types of nuts, and soybeans contribute to healthy hair growth.

How long does the treatment take?

This will depend on the extent of treatment needed to achieve your desired outcomes, including how much hair has been lost and what look patients want. The treatment can take anywhere between 30-90 minutes, so we recommend that patients block out sufficient time in their day for the session.

When Should I Seek Treatment For Hair Loss?

The sooner you can seek treatment the better will be the outcome.  This treatment is only effective for those that still have remaining hair follicles that can be induced to come out of their resting phase.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Because Regenera Activa uses autologous micro-grafts extracted from the back of the patient’s scalp there is no risk of allergy or tissue rejection.  The sample site at the back of the skull should be kept clean to prevent any chance of infection.

Does Regenera Activa hurt?

At Advanced Cosmetic Medicine, we aim to ensure all patients are safe and comfortable during their respective treatments. For Regenera Activa, local anaesthetic is administered to lessen any discomfort, and while there may be some slight pricking sensations, most patients find the treatment comfortable and painless.

Are there any contraindications for the treatment?

All patients will consult with Dr Targett before undergoing any treatment to ensure they are suitable and a treatment plan that suits their needs is created. There are some contraindications for Regenera Activa that should be kept in mind and discussed at your consultation that including:

  • Individuals with blood-clotting disorders
  • Patients currently taking blood-thinning medications
  • Patients with allergies to anaesthetic ingredients
  • Individuals with advanced or severe hair loss

In some cases, these contraindications can be mitigated, such as stopping medications if your doctor has cleared this and using alternate forms of numbing to minimise discomfort. However, individuals with significant hair loss may find a hair transplant more beneficial than Regenera Activa.
