What Is The Difference Between A Doctor Who Practices Primary Care Dermatology And A Dermatologist?
We often get asked; “What is the difference between a G.P with a special interest in Dermatology and a Dermatologist?”
Dermatologists are specialists in the field of treating skin diseases. After Medical school and internship, they perform vocational training in dermatology and after passing all their exams and completing their four-year training program are eligible for fellowship with the Australian College of Dermatologists.
A General Practitioner is a speciality doctor in the field of General Practice. G.P’s are able to train in areas of “special interest” such as Dermatology. The RACGP offer G.P’s specialist training in Dermatology.
Dermatologist / Plastic Surgeon Referrals
Dr Targett always works inside her scope of practice. For complex cases and where a second opinion is recommended we are always happy to refer to a specialist dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
