How it works
How does Ultraformer 3 Work?
HIFU or high intensity focussed ultrasound is used to cause a heating effect at precise points within the dermis. Three cartridges are used to to cause heating points at depths of 1.5mm, 3mm and 4.5mm.
HIFU produces a heat in the range of 65-75 degrees C. This temperature causes instant contraction of collagen fibres and in infant tightening and lifting effect on the skin. The greatest benefit of HIFU is that it can reach such high temperatures without causing any damage to the superficial skin.
HIFU is the number 1 treatment on the market for treating sagging. This is because it can treat deep into the dermis at the level of the SMAS (superficial musculoponeurotic system). Treatment at this level is responsible for the greatest lifting and tightening effect only achievable by Ultraformer.
Another advantage of Ultraformer is that it is colour blind and can be used on all skin types (unlike laser treatments). There is almost no downtime. After the treatment your skin will have some slight redness, swelling and rarely bruising.
The heating effect of the focussed ultrasound ( see image above) is responsible for stimulating fibroblasts within the dermis to produce more collagen and elastin fibres. Fat Reduction
The Ultraformer also comes with 6mm and 9mm cartidges which are used for fat reduction. At these depths the focussed ultrasound reaches the adipose layer. The removal of fat cells is permanent and they will not regenerate.

How many treatments will I need and how often?
Your doctor will perform an initial assessment of your face and recommend a treatment suitable for you. Usually two treatments are performed in the first six months and then maintenance treatments are performed every twelve months.
How do I prepare for the treatment?

Is Ultraformer III painful?
Most clients find Ultraformer to be very tolerable. On a pain threshold out of ten, most say it is a two or three level. If requested numbing cream can be applied before your treatment.
Additionally, 1g of Paracetamol can be taken before your appointment. Numbing cream can have limited effect due to the depth of treatment that Ultraformer reaches.
What are the possible side effects of Ultraformer III?
Side effects from Ultraformer III treatment are rare and typically mild in nature.
Immediately after the treatment, it is normal for the treated area to appear red, which usually subsides within a few hours.
You may also experience mild swelling and tenderness in the treatment area for a few days. In rare cases, some patients may notice mild bruising and temporary numbness.
Serious side effects are extremely rare. These may include skin burns or temporary inflammation of motor/sensory nerves. However, our skilled technicians are trained to minimize the risk of these side effects by avoiding sensitive nerve areas and applying firm pressure to the skin during the treatment.

The skin rejuvenation effect of Ultraformer III should peak at six months. The collagen and elastin produced over this period will improve the structure and strength of the skin making our skin more youthful and sag resistant. Making the skin stronger and more supported is in effect reversing the ageing process on your skin.
HIFU will permanently remove fat cells from your adipose tissue. The heat produced from the focussed ultrasound destroys the fat cells. These cells will be removed from the body over coming months by phagocytosis and the lymphatic system.
HIFU (unlike cool sculpting) will also stimulate production of collagen and elastin to help make the skin firmer and tighter. This is very important because after fat reduction the skin can be left loose and sagging.
Fat cells removed by HIFU are removed permanently and will not come back. Fat cells do not regenerate.
HIFU will not remove all the fat cells from a region, only a small percentage. If you put on weight, the remaining fat cells in the region can still swell. HIFU is not a weight loss tool.
HIFU exposed the dermis to mild heat trauma. Redness and swelling is a natural reaction to any form of trauma. Swelling should last for any a few days and can be reduced by icing the area after the procedure and sleeping with your head elevated.
HIFU is a very popular treatment because it is very effective at tightening the jowl area. HIFU is the percent treatment for saggy jowls, drooping brows and loose skin. The skin will initially be tightened and lifted by the contraction of collagen fibres. Over the next six months collagen and elastin will proliferate, helping to improve the quality of the skin to make it more resistant from the effects of gravity.
HIFU is most suited for those over the age of 30 that have mild to moderate skin laxity. Several treatments may be required to achieve desired results. HIFU is not suitable for treating severe sagging and is not a replacement for a surgical face lift. Prevention is always better than cure. Treatment with HIFU in the early stages of skin laxity and volume loss are most beneficial.
People love HIFU because they see immediate results of skin lifting in the jawline . This creates a more defined jawline. Results will continue to improve over the next twelve months.
The number of HIFU treatments needed will depend on the extent of the skin laxity and amount of fat reduction required. This will be determined at your initial consultation with the doctor. Normally 2-4 sessions will be required.
HIFU does have the potential to damage facial nerves. It is for this reason that the technician will ovoid treating over the regions where the facial nerves are located. The technician will mark off the areas to be avoided prior to starting the treatment. Superficial treatments above the depth of the facial nerves can still be performed.
It is best to wait seven days post HIFU before undergoing cosmetic injectables treatment.
Clients should wait four weeks after having cosmetic injectables before having a HIFU treatment. This will allow time for the injectables to settle and prevent any possibility of migration of product.
Ultraformer III uses the body's own healing mechanisms to generate a natural increase in the amount of collagen and elastin. This is longer lasting when compared to cosmetic injectables. It may take up to six months for the full effects of HIFU to be seen.
Results from dermal fillers can be seen immediately.
Ultraformer III can be performed on the forehead using the superficial probes. This will help remove wrinkles and cause skin tightening of the forehead.
Fat reduction can be achieved on any part of the body when done using the right Handpiece. Excess facial fat can also be treated, such as the jowls, double chin and cheeks. Fat cells are destroyed by the heat and removed from the body by the lymphatic system.

If firm contact is made with the skin, Ultraformer should not cause any damage to the epidermis.
